Get published and get paid for it
Getting published, whether it's a book or an article is as much the result of following the correct procedure and knowing the format editors and publishers look for as it is that of skill and talent. The publishing industry, just like any other business, works on trends, contacts and sound business principles. The time of the 'gentleman publisher' prepared to take a chance on a journalist or author who showed promise is sadly past, if it ever existed.Where does that leave you?
If you are serious about getting published then you need to know exactly what the industry needs. How to approach editors and publishers. How to pitch a book or article idea and how to best present it. With 15 years' experience in the publishing industry as an accredited NUJ journalist, writer and editor I have seen how things work on both sides of the fence. I am now a publishing consultant for an internet publisher (www.coolpublications.com) and continue to ghostwrite books, publish articles and write books under my own name as well as edit a trade magazine (TAGB Times). In truth no one can. That particular skill is your contribution to the enterprise.
